Raine & Horne rings in rapid expansion to celebrate start of 140th year

  • Raine & Horne is to expand its global group by 10-15% in 2023, including eight new offices, before commemorating the official 140th anniversary of its launch on 23 May 1883. 
  • The average age of principals joining the super brand and technology leader is 38. 
  • The 2023 growth strategy will focus on capital city growth corridors and more rural offices.  

Raine & Horne will officially celebrate 140 years of continuous operation on 23 May 2023, but before that memorable milestone, the super brand plans to open eight new offices across Australia in this quarter alone. 

According to Angus Raine, Executive Chairman of Raine & Horne, the unique landmark cements the super brand his great grandfather Tom Raine launched with property management whiz Joseph Horne in 1883 as one of the oldest privately-owned firms in the Southern Hemisphere.

“But history alone doesn’t generate more offices. We will continue to take the same positive approach in supporting our offices and adding to our network as we did in 2022.

“Last year, we added 20 new offices despite real estate markets in some major capital cities taking a breather,” said Mr Raine, who is the fourth generation of his family to lead Raine & Horne.

Heading the growth strategy, Tina Ashton, National Head of Growth & Network Manager, Raine & Horne, said we plan to increase our office numbers by 10-15% in 2023.

“We expect to get back to the same level of growth as we achieved in the 2021/22 financial year when we added 33 offices to our network,” Ms Ashton said. 

“While we will be opening offices in our capital cities, we will be taking a leaf out of Tom Raine & Joseph Horne’s playbook and focusing plenty of attention on the rural sector.”

In 1883, Raine & Horne launched as a land agent after securing the immense Cooper Estate that extended from Double Bay and Bellevue Hill in the east through to Waterloo and Pagewood in the south of Sydney. 

Younger principals flocking to the super brand 

According to Ms Ashton, as part of the 2023 expansion, Raine & Horne expects to add many new rural offices in 2023, but the super brand won’t take its eye off the ball in metro areas either. 

In 2023, the super brand plans to add offices in western Sydney, northern NSW, metro Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart.  

“For example, we have identified growth opportunities in Western Sydney with plenty of younger agents with an average age of 38 years indicating they want to join Raine & Horne,” she said. 

“We even had a young agent contact me on Boxing Day from Sydney’s southwest, indicating his new year’s resolution was to open an office in 2023. We have put the ball in motion and will have a very strong, new office in the Macarthur region opening soon.

“There is no doubt that while myself and our team of Growth Managers across Australia are working energetically to bring new offices to Raine & Horne, our focus on cutting-edge technology is resonating with younger principals.

“Our ecosystem of digital firsts such as game-changing AI and social media marketing technology Amplify, and online sales and property management appraisal platform, DigitKit are massive prospecting tools for us.

“We are also completing a brand refresh, trialling some new signboards, and truly stepping up as a brand to be reckoned with in our 140th year. 

“There is no doubt that trust and longevity along with our technology ecosystem are big attractions, and our principals rely on that in changing market conditions.”
