Caloundra is the southern-most community on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland's south-east. It is about 60 minutes' drive north of Brisbane’s CBD and 45 minutes from Brisbane’s domestic and international air terminals. Caloundra is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia and has a population of 89,000. By 2011 the expected population is expected to grow to as much as 112,900.
Caloundra is a vibrant tourist-oriented suburb boasting stunning coastline and the Glass House Mountains as a backdrop. There are several beaches catering for everyone from toddlers to experienced surfers. On a clear day looking out to sea, the sand hills 20km away on Moreton Island are visible.
Caloundra is known for its dining options which include restaurants, bistros, cafes, surf and sporting clubs. There are several large shopping centres including Stockland Caloundra and local speciality boutiques along Bulcock Street.
Landsborough Station on the Nambour/Gympie North Line has regular train services to Brisbane, operated by QR Citytrain. There are daily coach services to the Brisbane Transit Centre. Local services are operated by Sunbus, connecting Caloundra to the other areas of the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast Airport nearby offers flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Caloundra has primary and high schools, as well as private and public hospitals.
Major nearby attractions include Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo, Aussie World and the Ettamogah Pub, Big Kart Track and the Queensland Air Museum.
