R&H Suburb Profile BRACKEN RIDGE

Bracken Ridge is a suburb 20km north of Brisbane's CBD, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane.

Bracken Ridge is a relatively new suburb, popular with families because of its semi-rural, laid back feel and excellent facilities. Most development has taken place since the 1990s. It has a semi-rural, laid-back feel and features some older style homes made of timber and tin, as well as many modern brick and tile structures.

There are several housing estates including The Oaks, Enbrook Heights and Sungate Estate. The terrain is generally hilly, with the highest area featuring a park and a reservoir from which it is easy to see Moreton Bay to the east and the CBD to the south.

Bracken Ridge has several schools and educational institutions including St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge State School, Norris Road State School, Bracken Ridge State High School (formally known as Nashville State High School), St Josephs Catholic Primary School and Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, Bracken Ridge campus.

Gawain Road and Barrett Street are home to several shopping strips, with a larger shopping centre on the corner of Telegraph Road and Norris Road. There is a tavern on the corner of Barrett and Denham Streets, and a sports centre on Bracken Ridge Road. Nearby are Sandgate Shopping Complex and Taigum Shopping Centre. There are also plenty of dining options including cafes, restaurants, take-away shops and pubs. Large retail chains and supermarkets are available at Westfield Toombul and Chermside, both of which are easily accessible by public transport or major roadways.

There is public transport with regular bus routes, supplemented by easy access to the Bruce Highway and the Gateway Motorway. Using the Gateway arterial, Brisbane Airport, is only a 15 minute drive. Bracken Ridge is situated between two railway lines and the stations of Bald Hills(Caboolture line) and Deagon (Shorncliffe line).

Bracken Ridge has several parks including Enbrook Parkland and the Bill Brown Sports Reserve on Telegraph Road, Bracken Ridge Reservoir, and Stanley Day Park. There are also several houses of worship including the Catholic, Baptist, and Uniting Church denominations and an Islamic community centre lies just across the border in Bald Hills. There is no hospital but Brisbane’s hospitals are about 20km away.

Recreational facilities in the local area include the Bill Brown Cricket Ground, several parks, and bike and walk ways.
