Tweed Heads is a town on the Tweed River in north-eastern NSW in Tweed Shire. It is next to the QLD border, adjacent to the ‘Twin Town’ of Coolangatta, a suburb of the Gold Coast. It is often referred to as a town where you can change time zones - even celebrate New Year twice within an hour - simply by crossing the street, and the fact that NSW observes daylight saving and QLD does not.

It’s an easy drive to Brisbane (less than 95km) and the bright lights of the Gold Coast (about 35 mins drive), yet far enough away to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle. Perfect for families and retirees, as well as young singles wanting to be close to the bustle of the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Given its closeness to the Gold Coast, Tweed Heads has a shared economy with Coolangatta based heavily on tourism. Popular tourist destinations include Mount Warning, one of the largest shield volcanoes in the Southern Hemisphere, and the nearby Nightcap, Border Ranges, Springbrook and Lamington National Parks, which abound with sub-tropical fauna and flora.

The region’s growth is continuing to be driven by a mass exodus of “southerners” keen to relocate to warmer climes. Tweed Heads/ Coolangatta has been described as standing between civilisation and the wilderness. The weather is balmy and residents are blessed with an enviable lifestyle, surrounded by natural beauty and attractions including 35km of pristine beaches, the lush green vegetation of the Tweed Valley hinterland.

The Twin Towns share a main street that straddles the state border. Commercially it is a thriving business hub boasting excellent shopping and dining, top quality schools and hospitals and hundreds of recreational options.

Universities and TAFE colleges are also nearby, as is the Gold Coast airport, situated at Coolangatta.

Public and private hospitals serve the area, with larger hospitals in Brisbane.
