R&H Suburb Profile LAIDLEY
Laidley is in the Lockyer Valley of south-east Queensland, 83km west of Brisbane. It is an historic township situated 108m above sea level.
First settled in the 1840s, Laidley has a mix of architectural styles including traditional and un-renovated Queenslanders and Colonials, post-war housing, chamferboard and brick and tile houses.
The area is popular with families, couples and retirees and is home to a primary, a secondary school and major supermarkets. There are several bike and walkways, parks, and sporting facilities in the area.
The local industry has been dominated by agriculture since the end of the 1800s. Laidley has long regarded itself as ‘Queensland's Country Garden’. Fruit and vegetable production features prominently, with the majority of beetroot grown in Australia coming from the Laidley district.
Laidley is accessible from Brisbane by train (to either Ipswich or Rosewood) and then by bus transfer.
