Flagship offices celebrate super brand’s 140 years in style at major national awards

March 21, 2023
  • The Raine & Horne 2023 Awards for Excellence, celebrating the super brand’s 140 years of operation, have been finalised at a spectacular event at the iconic Sydney Town Hall.
  • Fittingly, the group’s flagship office Raine & Horne Double, led by uber agent Ric Serrao has maintained its vicelike grip on the major categories after staving off fierce competition from Raine & Horne Lower North Shore.
  • The national awards were shared across the group with David Brooks from Raine & Horne Hobart following up last year’s win in the Residential Top Salesperson Number of Sales with Dubbo principal Brentley Goodwin winning the Top Principal - Number of Sales classifications.

Australian real estate powerhouse Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach has maintained its status as one of Australia’s best real estate offices after grabbing the prestigious Top National Office Dollar Value award announced Saturday, 18 March, at the 2023 Raine & Horne National Awards.

Hosted by Angus Raine, Executive Chairman of Raine & Horne, the annual awards event attracted over 500 attendees, who witnessed one of Australia’s best agents Ric Serrao and his team at Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach win a bagful of significant gongs.

Apart from Top National Office Dollar Value, Mr Serrao won the Top Principal $ Value category, tipping out Ben Spackman from Raine & Horne Mona Vale as he did in 2022. As he did last year, Mr Spackman won the Residential Top Salesperson Auction Listings award.

Raine & Horne Dubbo principal Brentley Goodwin won the Top Principal - Number of Sales classifications from Queensland’s Nora Anderson of Raine & Horne Ayr, with another principal from Dubbo Ken Mongan in third.

Alex Lyons from Raine & Horne Double Bay/Bondi Beach scored first in the Residential Top Salesperson Dollar Value category from a second-time runner in this category, the consistent Sam Kearney of Raine & Horne Forestville/ Frenchs Forest with Jack Turner from Raine & Horne St Marys in third. Mr Turner also finished second in Top National Salesperson Number of Sales, just behind David Brooks from Raine & Horne Hobart, who repeated his 2022 win in this category.

Mr Lyons, one of Australia’s biggest selling agents under 30, said he was thrilled with his win.

“Winning this award validates my hard work, recognises my dedication to my profession and hopefully inspires others from humble beginnings to strive for success.”

Mr Serrao added, “We had a great 2022, and as a business owner and salesperson, it is always fantastic to see people progress. I’m lucky to have some very special and humble people working with us.

“I can’t remember when parents and grandparents attended awards ceremonies to support our team members. It just underscores the great team culture we have built, which is central to our success.”

Raine & Horne Lower North Shore, led by star principal Stuart Bourne with elite offices in Lane Cove, Willoughby and Mosman, won glory by winning the Residential Top Office for Auction Listings from Raine & Horne Mona Vale and Raine & Horne Double Bay.

The importance of rewards and recognition

Angus Raine took pains to praise all the winners, and award nominees, “The contenders for the awards have all notched up impressive achievements through their skill, dedication and passion – qualities that are all hallmarks of the Raine & Horne brand.

“This year’s awards are particularly special because, in 2023, Raine & Horne celebrates a significant milestone – our 140th anniversary.

“It is truly remarkable to consider that it was back in on 23 May 1883 that real estate pioneers – my great grandfather Thomas Raine and Joseph Horne, first established the Raine & Horne brand.

“The business has come a long way. We have survived when many others failed, navigating some of the most significant economic downturns the world has ever seen, including the Great Depression and the Global Financial Crisis.

“Today, over 3,000 people around the world are part of the Raine & Horne family, and together, in 2022, we sold $10 billion worth of real estate and managed over 120,000 properties.

“It’s quite an achievement – and there is no other family-owned business in Australia I’m aware of that has combined such a long-lasting legacy with such impressive national and international expansion.”

Other national award winners include Brad Rogers, Co-Principal of Raine & Horne Commercial Central Coast, named Top National Commercial Salesperson Highest Transaction. Mr Rogers finished second in Top National Commercial Principal Sales Dollar Value behind uber principal Trent Bruce from Raine & Horne Commercial Brisbane North.

In the Top National Commercial Principal Leasing Sales Dollar Value, Luke Horton from Raine & Horne Commercial Port Macquarie beat home Mr Rogers and Luke Smith from Raine & Horne Commercial Inner West/South Sydney.

The 2023 NSW Awards were announced at the same event, and Mr Smith was named Top Commercial Principal - Sales Dollar Value. Mr Smith also came third in the Top Commercial Principal - Leasing Dollar Value category in NSW behind Luke Horton, Raine & Horne Commercial Port Macquarie. Raine & Horne Commercial Inner West/South Sydney also won Top Commercial Office – Sales Dollar Value and Top Commercial Office – Number of Sales in NSW.

Mr Smith, one of Sydney’s brightest upcoming commercial property principals, said he was thrilled with his win. “These awards recognise the team's hard work, and they also show us that we are making the right moves for our clients and business.

Mr Smith and his brother Nick launched Raine & Horne Commercial Inner West/South Sydney in 2007. The Smith brothers had been previously employed for ten years in father Michael and mother Yvonne’s business, Raine & Horne Marrickville.

“Mum and dad celebrate their own 40th anniversary with Raine & Horne and will retire on 1 July 2023. They launched Raine & Horne Marrickville when I was a few months old. And as far back as I can remember, there was always exposure to what happens in a real estate office, and they have greatly influenced us ever since.”
