Country escape within 15 minutes of Darwin will appeal to southern state downsizers and semi-retirees

July 23, 2021

A rare 5-acre property, which is only a 15-minute ferry ride from the Darwin CBD, is set to attract the attention of southern state downsizers seeking an escape from the fatigue of lockdowns.

The affordable acreage, which is fully fenced, is located at 40 De Lissa Drive, Wagait Beach, is expected to sell for between $1.15 million to $1.35 million. This rare opportunity has been listed for sale by Byron Wauchope from leading real estate firm Raine & Horne Darwin.

“The current owners have loved living in this inspired coastal haven home for close to seventeen years and are only moving to be closer to family,” Mr Wauchope said.

Glenn Grantham, General Manager, Raine & Horne Darwin, said the property is incredibly unique. It is the only acreage in the Wagait Beach area selling for a price equivalent of modest a two-bedroom apartment in some parts of Sydney.

“This unique property comes with a spacious 600 sqm four-bedroom house with high ceilings and cross-ventilation that will ensure comfort in both the wet and dry seasons.”

The magnificent property also has a 400,000-litre underground rainwater tank that ensures its residents never run dry. In addition, there is a separate bore and extra water tank. The property also has an industrial-grade shed offering 80 sqm of enclosed space and a further 80 sqm of covered work area complete with three-phase power.

All four bedrooms are well-sized, while the master offers direct access to the plunge pool and verandah. A separate large office/study plus two defined living areas provide ample internal living space to enjoy the creature comforts of the magnificent home that is delightfully nestled among the backdrop of mature trees and tropical gardens.

Darwin’s best-kept secret will appeal to those seeking a country lifestyle escape

Mr Grantham said the unique property would appeal to semi-retirees, those wishing to work in Darwin but want a country lifestyle and downsizers fatigued by southern state lockdowns.

“Many down-south evacuees are buying rural property in the Northern Territory now to escape the COVID environment, and this unique property represents their perfect isolation opportunity.

“To this end, the property is serviced by reliable NBN and mobile phone connection which is perfect for anyone looking to work from home.”

Owning acreage at Wagait Beach or Mandorah is not dissimilar to living on a rural property at Humpty Doo and Howard Springs, Mr Grantham said. “The major exception with owning at Wagait Beach is the commute home is on a ferry to Mandorah, which is not dissimilar to those traveling between Manly and the Sydney CBD.

“It’s just that rather than returning to an apartment or a house on a small block, you’re returning to a spacious lifestyle property situated on sprawling acreage.”

The semi cleared 5-acre block is well maintained for fire safety and visual aspects, and in the wet season, it comes to life in a blanket of green.

“Where else in Australia will you find a country lifestyle property a 15-minute commute from a significant CBD, airports and all the amenities associated with a capital city,” Mr Grantham concluded.
