CITY BOUNCES BACK WITH BUYERS - NT NEWS
PALMERSTON is poised for a 2020 real estate resurgence.
Raine & Horne Darwin general manager Glenn Grantham said he expected properties in Palmerston to be snapped up after a few years of declining popularity.
“Popularity has decreased over the last two years in comparison to the previous 20 years,” he said.
“Since its inception, Palmerston has always had a pretty good demand but the last couple of years has been the worst period of demand for purchasing .
“Competitive properties were similarly priced in Darwin and the northern suburbs. Those locations have historically and continue to be more desirable than Palmerston from a buyer’s perspective.”
Mr Grantham said Palmerston had a lot in its favour with buyers.
“Palmerston as a whole though has got a better supply of infrastructure now than what Darwin, through to the northern suburbs has,” he said.
“Shopping centres, schools, hospitals, police, all of the predominant infrastructure expenditure spent over the last few years has been targeted towards Palmerston.
“There is so much expenditure out there. When you look at Palmerston itself in comparison to what’s being spent in town, there’s a much better offering for young families.
“There’s certainly a lot of consideration for Palmerston where there wasn’t before. Previously the only consideration for good schooling was in Darwin . Now you look at what’s going on out there with the Catholic school and Zuccoli school, Palmerston is certainly on young families’ radars.”
Mr Grantham highlighted Durack as one of the most popular suburbs within Palmerston .
“There are loads of good buys even in the premier suburbs like Durack,” he said.
Marisa and Dan Marsland moved to Palmerston from Western Australia with their children Georgia, Taylor and Heath last October and said it had a good community vibe.
“It’s family friendly, everything’s right here, we don’t have to go anywhere,” Ms Marsland said. “Everything’s nice and close. You’ve got the recreation centre, Gateway, there’s movies if you want to go to the movies, there’s heaps of shopping centres to groceries and (other) things.”
She said it had a great community atmosphere and plenty of events to get residents out and about.
“We have been to a few night markets when we first came, they were nice and had good community atmosphere,” she said.
“There are great schools and the children love the schools.”
Mr Marsland said the whole city had been kept attractive and it was nice to enjoy the public parks and vibrant Goyder Square.
“They keep it fairly clean,” he said.
“It’s well preserved for a small city.”
